Ophthalmology

Eye is a vulnerable organ in diabetics. For diabetes patients, regular visits to the Ophthalmologist for eye exams are very important, to avoid eye problems. High blood sugar increases the risk of eye problems. In fact, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults in the age group of 20 to 74.

Diabetic Retinopathy, Cataract, Glaucoma, Refractive Changes, Ocular Nerve Damage etc. are the common eye problems associated with Diabetes.

Diabetics are 30 times more likely to be blind than non-diabetics of similar age.

Retinopathy is the commonest complication of diabetes and up to 10% of diabetics at any one time will have sight-threatening retinopathy requiring specialist ophthalmological management.
